Phraseling beta: privacy, support and account removal
Your study data
Downloaded audio is limited to 50 MB; older recordings may be removed and downloaded or generated again when needed. Incidental unsaved daily-phrase recordings are temporary and expire after 24 hours, with cleanup when the app next accesses audio storage. Saving a phrase retains its recording. Removing a phrase also removes its recordings when no remaining card uses them. Small local cache records track hashed phrase identities, recording sizes, access times and expiry; they stay outside study backups and cloud sync. Settings shows downloaded audio usage and lets you clear downloads. Audio bundled with the installed app is separate.
Phrase of the Day uses your retained practice history on this device to choose suitable phrase difficulty and topics. Your manual minimum level, demonstrated minimum and up to four recent daily phrase identifiers and dates are saved locally for each study owner and language. They are not sent to a generation provider, included in backups or cloud sync, and are removed when that owner's local data is cleared.
When the online daily feed is enabled, Phraseling requests shared phrases using your course, selected minimum level, voice, region and date. Your library text, account identifier and practice history are not included. Shared phrases are generated and automatically checked using Gemini, then published with recordings for reuse. These shared assets are public and are not your private Library recordings. Up to seven phrases and recordings stay on this device for offline use within the 50 MB audio limit; they can repeat after a week offline or while fresh content is unavailable, including during generation budget pauses. A suitable curated phrase remains available when no shared phrase is ready; playback reuses existing recordings or uses device speech without requesting new paid audio. Local seen-phrase records prevent repeats while online and stay until that local owner's data is cleared. The active offline recordings do not expire after 24 hours; replacing the buffer makes unused recordings eligible for cleanup. These local feed records are excluded from study backups and cloud sync.
Your appearance choice (System, Light or Dark) stays on this device or browser. It survives sign-out and is not included in study backups, account exports or cloud sync.
The website remembers that you have entered the app so later visits can open your practice directly. This browser-only welcome choice contains no study content or account information and stays outside backups and sync. To recognize an older installation, the welcome page can check whether the existing study storage directory contains files without opening the database or reading its contents.
This device also remembers which milestone and daily-goal recognition has already been handled, separately for each study owner and course, to avoid repeating it. These small presentation markers contain no phrase text and are not achievements or grades. They stay out of backups and cloud sync and are removed when that owner's local data is cleared. Milestones themselves are calculated from retained practice history.
Phraseling saves phrases, practice history, schedules and settings on your device or in this browser's storage. Guest study does not require an account. Clearing browser data, uninstalling the app or losing the device can remove that local library.
When Favorites is available, marking a phrase as a favorite saves that choice with the phrase. It is included in study backups and, when your account has cloud sync, synchronized with your account. Removing the phrase removes its favorite choice. Study backups also preserve the recorded calendar days of your practices; older backups may reconstruct those days from practice times.
Unfinished Add text and review edits stay with the selected local library and course. In a browser, a temporary tab cache can restore them after reload. In the app, or when browser storage is unavailable, they remain in memory for the current app session. Signing out clears that account's drafts. Each local library and course recovers only its own drafts. Unsaved drafts are not included in study backups or cloud sync, and restoring a draft does not send an AI request.
An account is optional. If your account has cloud sync and you choose to merge your Guest library, your saved phrases, course information, practice history and learning settings are also stored for that account so your devices can synchronize. Simply signing in does not silently upload your Guest library. Device voice choices and downloaded audio remain on the device.
Supabase handles account authentication and cloud data; Vercel hosts the website and app's online requests. Google handles Google sign-in where enabled. Resend sends signup and password-recovery emails. Email-open and link-click tracking are inactive. These services also process technical information needed to operate, such as network and account activity. Account information is accessible to the developer when needed to operate the app or handle a support request.
AI and Natural Voice
Using AI translation or generation sends the selected phrases or topic and requested language/details to Google Gemini through Phraseling's server. Creating a new Natural Voice recording sends the phrase and requested voice/language settings. Saved recordings and starter samples can play without requesting a new recording. Device/browser speech follows the speech service and voice installed or selected on your device.
Settings voice previews use prerecorded public samples rather than your phrases. Previewing does not send learner content to a generation provider, require an account or use your Natural Voice allowance. The web downloads the current language and region's five samples from Phraseling's hosting and caches them within the 50 MB audio limit for later offline playback. The installed app bundles these samples for offline use. Their local cache records stay outside study backups and cloud sync.

AI translations and explanations can be wrong. Review and edit generated cards before saving. Avoid putting sensitive or confidential information into phrases sent to AI or voice generation.
Phraseling uses a Gemini API project with active billing, confirmed by the developer on October 12. Under Google's paid-service terms, prompts and responses are not used to improve its products. Google still processes them to provide the service and keeps prompts, context and responses for 55 days for abuse monitoring; flagged content may be reviewed by authorized staff. Deleting your Phraseling account does not erase earlier requests held by Google. Processing is not restricted to one country. See Google's data-use terms and abuse-monitoring policy. Recheck this wording if billing or the provider changes.
Backups and deleting data
Use Settings → Export backup to save a study backup outside the app. These JSON files are unencrypted and can contain your phrases and practice history; keep them somewhere safe. A study backup can be restored in Guest mode. Account → Export account data is a separate cloud-account export, including synchronized data; it is not the Settings restore file.
Before signing out, let pending changes synchronize or export a study backup. Confirmed sign-out removes that account's study data, pending changes and private downloaded audio from this device. It does not delete the cloud account or files you already exported.
To delete your account, open Account, choose Delete account, and type DELETE to confirm. You may need to sign in again for security. Successful deletion removes the active cloud account and its owned study records, then clears this device's account data before Guest mode opens. It does not delete your Google account, remotely erase another device's offline copies or remove files you exported/shared. Sign out on other devices and remove unwanted backup files yourself.
Synced study and account records are kept while your account exists. Removing an individual card can leave sync/deletion history until account deletion so other devices can catch up safely. Minimal security and deletion-audit records can remain after deletion; they contain no phrase text and currently have no scheduled automatic expiry. Providers retain their own technical, security and service records under their policies. Resend publishes a 30-day email-data retention window for its current plan; that is not a promise that all provider records disappear after 30 days.
One password-encrypted operator backup is verified in a private Google Drive folder and remains there without automatic expiry. The owner has approved replacing manual work with an automated weekly backup in the existing private GitHub repository. During capture, GitHub processes the database copy temporarily; only the encrypted file is retained as a private artifact, with automatic expiry after 14 days. The permanent recovery key stays with the developer. Older copies can contain deleted data until those copies are removed; Drive Trash can retain removed copies for another 30 days. If a backup is restored, known account deletions must be reapplied before affected accounts are reopened. The first real automated backup, downloaded-file verification, developer-key unlock and received failure-email test passed on October 15. Weekly capture is enabled. The developer keeps the recovery-key archive password privately; weekly jobs do not require manual password entry.
Beta cloud access can be interrupted. Recovery may lose changes since the last usable backup, and a four-hour recovery time is not guaranteed. Keep your own study backup; cloud sync is not a substitute for a copy you control.
Support, feedback and privacy requests
For feedback, support and privacy/account-removal requests, contact Phraseling Support: phraseling.support@gmail.com.
The developer plans to read and respond to feedback daily or weekly. Messages remain in the support inbox until they are manually removed; no automatic expiry is configured. Deleted email can remain in Gmail Trash for another 30 days. Reading/responding and clearing old messages are separate activities.
In Settings, choose Report an issue or Suggest improvements. Write a message inside Phraseling, then open a draft in your email app to review and send yourself. The draft adds the app version/build and platform; saved phrases, practice history and account details are not attached automatically. You can copy the draft if your email app does not open. Phraseling does not save the draft in its database or send it through its server. If you send it, your email provider and the developer's support inbox handle the message.
For help, include the approximate time and time zone, platform/browser, app version if known, the error message and steps that led to it. A screenshot is optional; remove private phrases and account information first. Never send passwords, verification/reset links, session tokens or a complete backup unless a specific safe process is agreed. You can also use the support contact for account access, correction, export or deletion problems; identity may need to be verified through a safe process.
Phraseling currently has no advertising, product analytics, session replay, microphone recording or pronunciation scoring. Its app/server logs are designed to exclude phrase content, passwords and tokens; hosting and other providers keep their own technical records. Account emails serve sign-in/recovery rather than a marketing newsletter. Any later change to these practices needs an updated notice before it is offered.
